Description
The Manifest Destiny story continues to unfold as Howakan's life, that of his brother, Takoda, and the future of the Lakota tribe all become ensnared in the consequences of Senator Winthrop's personal avarice and expansive manipulation of a political ideology. Winthrop's objective: to sweep aside the native peoples, claim the Indian Territories and forge a new nation that stretches from coast to coast across the North American continent. Nothing will stand in his way ... except the Lakota. Howakan's rise to tribal prominence brings him into direct conflict with Winthrop's military assault on the Great Plains, while Takoda's attempt to forge a new life with Carla Kopp is destined to become highly perilous. Johannes, Carla's brother, wants the Indian dead. But even in the barely charted lands of the Gallatin Valley, the long arm of Winthrop's influence will throw everyone's lives into turmoil. And where prospectors have struck hundreds of thousands of dollars of gold, the Senator is bound to have an interest: the sort that sets Colter, Stone and Gresham on a collision course.
